Professional soccer’s K League 1 Gimcheon Commerce striker Cho Young-wook has been granted a

special exemption from military service for his Asian Games gold medal, but it will take some time before he is actually discharged.

Winning a gold medal at the Asian Games entitles you to a special exemption from military service, so

‘Corporal’ Jo Young-wook, who was serving in the army in Gimcheon, was transferred early.

But he couldn’t go straight to his hometown. When he enlisted, he was busy preparing for the season and

didn’t participate in basic military training, which is required before he can be discharged.

South Korea’s Cho Young-wook celebrates after scoring a goal during the men’s football Group E match

between South Korea and Kuwait at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games at Jinhua Sports Center Stadium in

Jinhua City, east China’s Zhejiang Province, on Monday afternoon. Cho is currently playing for Gimcheon Commerce.

He also has to go through an administrative process with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism,

지노사이트랭크 as well as the Armed Forces Athletic Department. It’s a complicated process that can take

as long as a month and a half and as long as three months from the date of application.

A Gimcheon official said,

“Coach Jung Jung-yong decided to exclude Cho Young-wook from the team for the rest of the season out

of consideration. Currently, Cho is on vacation. He will enter basic military training on the 30th, but the exact date of his discharge has not yet been announced.”

Seoul fans are hoping to see Cho return to the club before the end of the season, but it won’t be easy as there is still a process involved.

FC Seoul’s Cho Young-wook celebrates after scoring an extra goal against Jeonbuk Hyundai during the

2022 Hana OneQ FA Cup Final first leg match between FC Seoul and Jeonbuk Hyundai at Seoul World

Cup Stadium in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on October 27, 2022.

Seoul will play the fifth and final game of the final round at home against Daejeon Hana Citizen on Dec. 2.

Cho Young-wook visited Seoul World Cup Stadium on Oct. 22 to watch the first match of the final round

between Seoul and Gangwon FC along with Kim Jin-ya and Ilyuchenko.

“Military veterans, including early discharges, can register for the roster of their original team immediately

after discharge, regardless of the transfer period,” a KFA official explained.

However, there is another variable: even if the player joins Seoul before the end of the season, it will be

difficult for him to play immediately. “Even if the schedule is right, it will be difficult for them to play, as

they will have just come out of four weeks of training,” the Seoul official cautions. 고스톱
