It’s a vacation not for the faint of heart.
British media outlet Sky Sports reported on Thursday (June 4) that “Manchester United manager Eric ten Bosch took a vacation after winning the FA Cup. In the meantime, the club’s hierarchy is planning to discuss his dismissal. Van Gaal hopes to have a decision on his future within the week. We hope to have a decision on his future within the next few days,” said the club.
Despite the trophy, Van Gaal’s position remains unsettled. United defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the 2023-2024 English FA Cup final on May 25 at Wembley in London, England, to clinch the FA Cup. The Red Devils defeated their local rivals and this season’s Premier League champions to claim the trophy.
It was a precarious situation. United finished eighth in the Premier League, hadn’t won a trophy in any competition, and were at odds with their players.
Van Gaal sent Jadon Sancho on loan to Borussia Dortmund after an argument with the player, who went on to lead Dortmund to the UEFA Champions League final. Anthony, who had insisted on the move, was investigated by police in Brazil and England for assaulting his girlfriend, and his performances were poor.
A string of failed signings also boomeranged back at van Gaal. United have brought in many of the players that Van Gaal wanted, but there have been more disappointments than successes.
Anthony, who cost £85.5 million, and Onana, who cost £47.2 million, are considered failures, while Casemiro, who cost £70 million, is considered an overpayment. The same goes for Medicine Mount, who cost £60 million.
The Red Devils are in the midst of a rebuilding process under new owner Jim Ratcliffe. “Ratcliffe is not in favor of throwing wads of cash at the transfer market,” says British publication The Sun. He wants to find gems for United’s future. He wants to 바카라 build a healthier, stronger and faster team this summer by bringing in new, younger players under the age of 25.”
A managerial change is also on the table. There are a number of coaches who have been touted as possible replacements for Ten Haag.
Most recently, Xavi Hernandez, who was sacked by Barcelona, has been linked. Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank, Graham Potter, and Kieran McKenna are also on the United managerial shortlist. By the time Van Gaal returns from his vacation, he may not have a job at United.
