The men’s professional volleyball team OK Financial Group smiled in a full-set battle with KB Insurance.
OK Financial Group defeated KB Insurance 3-2 (19-25 25-23 17-25 25-20 15-11) in straight sets in the men’s visiting match of the Dodram 2023-2024 V-League at Uijeongbu Gymnasium in Gyeonggi Province on Thursday.
The tense match was decided in the fifth set.
After taking a 7-6 lead with a block by Song Hee-chae, OK Financial Group used its ‘hawk’s eye’ to catch the opponent’s error and take the lead.
Initially, KB Insurance setter Hwang Seung-bin won the toss and Hwang Kyung-min scored an attack point to tie the score at 7-7.
However, OK Financial Group requested a video review of Hwang Seung-bin’s overnet, and it was later revealed that Hwang’s hand went over the net.
With the scoreline at two points for the first time, the match tilted even more sharply.
Leonardo Leyva Martínez (registered name Leo) blocked a quick opener from Andrés Villena (registered name Villena), and even after KB Insurance called time, Leo scored an opener for a 10-point advantage.
At 12-9, there was another video review for an overnet.
When setter Kwak Myung-woo was called for an overnet, OK Financial Group disagreed and requested a video review.
When it was overturned as not being an overnet, KB Insurance coach Hoo In-jung and setter Hwang Seung-bin protested harshly.
In the end, the decision was not overturned, and OK Financial Group took the 15-point lead.
The teams took turns taking control of the momentum and split the two sets.
The first set was taken by KB Insurance with a huge advantage in blocking (6-2), but OK Financial Group fought back in the second set by improving their receiving efficiency from 13.64% to 65.00%.
KB Insurance turned the tide at the start of the third set with four consecutive points from Bijena.
Opening with a powerful back attack, Bijena cut off Leo’s attack before heating up the court with an open attack that broke through three blockers.
Then, Hwang Kyung-min made a one-man block against Park Seung-soo, racking up the team’s 10th block and making it 5-0.
OK Financial Group persevered and dragged the match to a fifth set.
At 7-7 in the fourth set, Hwang Kyung-min’s net touch, Chae Hwan’s open, and Leo’s block against Hwang Kyung-min extended the lead to 10 points.
Then, OK Financial Group won the fifth set and became the final winner.
