Suwon Samsung’s dreams of promotion to the K League One after a year have suffered another setback. Suwon expressed their gratitude and apologies to their fans as they concluded the 2024 season.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our fans for their unwavering support this season. I am very sorry for the results that did not meet your expectations,” he said.
“We will thoroughly analyze and compensate for the shortcomings of this season and do our best to win promotion in 2025,” 스포츠토토사이트 the team vowed.
Suwon, who completed their regular league schedule three days earlier, settled for fourth place with 15 wins, 11 draws and 10 losses (56 points).
With their playoff (PO) hopes on the line, Suwon’s fate depended on the results of Jeonnam Dragons and Busan IPark in their remaining matches.
If either team failed to win, they would have a chance to qualify for the semi-POs, but the desired result did not happen. Instead, they got the worst possible outcome.
In the final match of the Hana Bank K League 2 2024 (Round 36) on September 9, Jeonnam traveled to Seoul Eland, while Busan hosted Bucheon FC 1995. Jeonnam defeated Eland 4-0 and Busan defeated Bucheon 3-1 to move up the standings.
With Jeonnam in fourth and Busan in fifth, Suwon slipped to sixth. Suwon finished level on points with Busan but missed out on a spot in the semifinals on goal difference.
Suwon finished at the bottom of the K League 1 last year, suffering its first relegation since its founding in 1995. After a year in the K League 2 under coach Yeom Ki-hoon, the team was promoted, but poor results forced Yeom to step down and Byun Sung-hwan took over, leading to an early surge that was short-lived.
Suwon then looked forward to the next season. Despite the pain of relegation to the K League 2, the team’s fans showed their support with a cumulative attendance of 331,813 fans and an average attendance of 9,217 fans, but it was another disappointment.
