‘Willian’s’ multi-goal performance gives Seoul a come-from-behind win

FC Seoul came from behind to beat Daegu FC in the K League 1 thanks to a multi-goal performance from Willian. Park Chang-hyun’s Daegu FC earned their first win in the league thanks to a goal and two assists from Se Jing-ya. Gangwon FC and Daejeon Hanatisseon played a three-goal thriller.

Kim Ki-dong’s Seoul defeated Incheon United 2-1 in the 12th round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at the Incheon Football Stadium on Nov. 11.

Seoul conceded an early goal to Incheon Mugosa, but took advantage of a late first-half sending-off to take the lead. Incheon’s Jerso and Seoul’s Choi Jun clashed, with Jerso receiving a direct red card for a second challenge.

Seoul fought back at the start of the second half, thanks in large part to Willian, who came on as a substitute. Willian equalized in the third minute of the second half and rattled the net again in the 17th minute with a left-footed shot. The goal was initially credited to Incheon Yonichi, but was later overturned as an own goal by Willian.

With the win, Seoul climbed to fifth place in the league (W4 D3 L5 D5 – 15 points). Incheon, on the other hand, is seventh in the league (3W, 5D, 4L, 14 points).

After the game, Seoul goalkeeper Baek Jong-beom performed a ceremony, and water bottles flew from the Incheon supporters’ section. Many bottles were thrown into the stadium, hitting players including Seoul’s Ki Sung-yong. Ki Sung-yong was unable to stand up for a while and had to be helped off the field by staff.

On the same day, Daegu came from behind to beat Gwangju FC 3-2 at home at DGB Daegu Bank Park.

The two teams traded two goals in the first half alone. After Gwangju took the lead in the fifth minute with a fantastic turning shot from Lee Eun-hee, Park Yong-hee rattled the net a minute later on a counterattack. Three minutes later, Gwangju’s Byun Jun-soo took the lead again from a set piece, but Daegu equalized again when Jung Jae-sang headed home a pass from Se Jing-ya.

The second half featured saves from both goalkeepers, but the game was decided by penalty kicks (PK) in the final minute. On a counterattack, Kim Young-joon was brought down by Lee Sang-gi after receiving a cross from Sejingya. Sejingya stepped up to the spot kick and slotted it to the right side for his debut goal of the season and the game-winning goal.

With his performance, Sejingya became the sixth player in the K League to join the 60-60 club. Sejingya’s career record in the K League is 89 points and 61 assists in 239 games. He has 78 points and 53 assists in 203 games in the K League 1 and 11 points and eight 안전놀이터 assists in 36 games in the K League 2.

Daegu earned their first win under Park Chang-hyun and escaped a seven-match winless streak (four draws and three losses).

Daegu moved up to 11th place (2W, 5D, 5L, 11 points), while Gwangju, whose two-game winning streak came to a halt, is ninth (4W, 7L, 12 points).

Finally, Gangwon and Daejeon played to a 3-3 draw at Chuncheon Songam Sports Town. Daejeon took a 2-1 lead in the first half through goals from Jung Kang-min and Lee Jun-gyu. Gangwon fought back in the second half with a sensible equalizer from Lee Sang-heon and a late goal from Yago.

However, there were mixed fortunes in the final defense. Daejeon’s Kim Hyun-woo was pushed down by Gangwon’s Kim Young-bin, earning a PK. Mlapa stepped up to the spot kick and slotted it home to the left side for a dramatic equalizer.

Gangwon remained in fourth place in the league (W4 D4 L4 D4 – 16 points). Daejeon drops to 11th in the league (2W, 5D, 5L, 11 points).
