Seneca Gaming Reveals Appointment Of General Manager

Just last week, Seneca Gaming Corporation announced that it would promote two of its long-term employees at two casinos to general managers. The appointees are Joanne Israel and Marc Papaj, who will currently manage the company’s Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino, respectively.

The Seneca Gaming Corporation is 100% owned by the Seneca Nation of Indians, which operates the Nation’s Class III casino, and has three properties: Seneca Nagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in downtown Buffalo, and Seneca Resort & Casino in Salamanca.

President and CEO Kevin’s nephew gaming company said the two experts are proud to be the leaders of Seneca Niagara and Seneca Buffalo Creek properties. Ms. Nephew said the two professionals proved to be effective and respected leaders in the company’s community, with a similar focus on delivering success and excellent customer service.

Mr. Israel joined the tribal company in 2011 after five years in public accounting. In 2018, she was appointed deputy general manager of Seneca Niagara, helping to manage the $40 million “Seneca Arrival Experience” project. She also played a major role in the safe and effective closure of casinos during unprecedented situations.

Mr. Papaz also joined the game leader in 2011 and has served as vice president at Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino since 2018. Prior to that, he was vice president of operations at Seneca Niagara Resort and led the renovation of the hotel’s penthouse suite for US$7 million. He also served as vice president of resort operations at Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino.

This year, Seneca Game Company celebrates major events at both casinos. Seneca Niagara opened to the public 20 years ago after the tribe completed the $100 million old Niagara Falls Convention & Civic Center. Meanwhile, Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino opened 15 years ago in July 2007.

Meanwhile, India’s Seneca country hopes to reach agreement with Empire State on new game compact. The current compact expires next year. Tribal chief Matthew Pagels acknowledges the state will never forgive Gov. Cathy Hochul’s decision to freeze tribal accounts as a way to force him to pay off game debts, although he wants a fair compact.

Over the years, the company’s three Western New York game amenities have been recognized for premium services on numerous occasions. In 2021, three properties received impressive 28 rewards in Strictly Slot magazine’s Best of Slots honor. Seneca Allegany Resorts & Casino won 12 rewards, while Seneca Niagara won 10 and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino won 6.
